Prior to meeting, it was believed that we were physically the same.
However, something very important was overlooked as they analyzed each other’s planets from afar. This oversight would prove to hold devastating consequences. For the planets cores were not the same. Earth’s core is predominantly iron and incredibly dense. While Ahkam’s core is made up of significantly more magnesium. The result being that the density of Earth creates more gravity. Simply put, Earthlings are stronger. Their bone platelets are almost 5 times more dense than that of an Ahkamian.
The realization that these refugees, coming to settle, were in fact nearly super-human in comparison, sent a shockwave of fear across the land. This fact quickly eroded the hopeful possibility of a peaceful transition and opened gaps for devious members of society to exploit.
Physically, Ahkamians are nearly identical to humans. When they are standing side by side, no one is able to discern the difference between them. Differences between individuals within the species are similar to those of human beings. Eye color, facial structure, hair color, and skin tone all vary; however, they are structurally and visually the same as Homo sapiens. Like Homo sapiens, their ethnicities differ from region to region, yet they share a striking likeness to the different ethnicities on Earth.
This similarity is known as “The Great Miracle”.
All Ahkamians are born with two features that make them very different from humans. The first, is a secondary voice box that sits just above the primary one. This additional voice box allows them to speak sounds that are beyond the hearing range of humans, hence they can also hear higher frequencies than us. Their native tongue is a tonal language that utilizes this part of the voice and goes in and out of human auditory range. They can also use the secondary voice box to sing simultaneous notes, which results in an effect similar to throat singing but is much more commonplace. Trained Ahkamian singers can literally sing harmonies with themselves.
The second distinctive feature these beings possess is small, porous nerve tips at the end of their fingers. These nerve tips allow them to share memories with their direct descendants. By touching all five fingertips to their children’s, they can transfer a memory. This ability is where a great amount of the strife between the “Two Great Tribes” originated. Sadly, the knowledge of this ability had been lost for thousands of years by the time this story is told.
